Michael R. Alvers

Dr. Michael R. Alvers has extensive management experience in various high-tech companies in positions such as Director Bioinformatics, Director Product Marketing and Business and Director Product Development. In addition, he has considerable experience managing large software projects. He is the initiator and creator of Proteomweaver, an award-winning software package for biological image analysis. He has total responsibility for the company's strategic business direction, corporate finances and staffing.

Michael received a Masters degree in Geophysics and holds a Ph.D. in Geophysics, both from the Free University of Berlin. He has studied and worked in Berlin, Stanford, Munich and La Plata, Argentina. He has attended and conducted various expeditions to the Central Andes and to the North Pole. Michael also holds a private pilot’s license.

Michael Schroeder
Prof. Dr. Michael Schroeder

Prof. Dr. Michael Schroeder is a professor of bioinformatics in both TU Dresden's Biotechnological Center and Computer Science Faculty. His research focuses on protein interactions derived from protein structures and from the scientific literature using textmining. His group has developed www.gopubmed.com as well as www.scoppi.org. He has published over 130 peer review articles on his research and manages a number of national and international research projects worth over 4.7 Mio. Euro including the EU projects Sealife, REWERSE and the BMWi project GoOn. He is a member of the W3C's Health Care and Life Science Interest Group. Before moving to Dresden in 2003 he worked for 6 years at City University in London as a lecturer and senior lecturer.

Michael holds a PhD from the University of Hannover and has studied and worked in Karlsruhe, Aachen, London and Lisbon.

Liliana Barrio-Alvers

Dr. Liliana Barrio-Alvers worked for 14 years as a scientist at the University of La Plata, Argentina and for more than 6 years as a professor of Geophysics. In Europe, she moved into computing, computer linguistics and applied techniques used in geophysics for information extraction. In her 6-year industry carrier at companies such as SailLabs AG, Comprendium AG, Definiens AG, the Max-Planck-Institut for Biochemistry in Munich and interActive Systems GmbH, she worked as a research scientist and a specialist in information extraction. At Transinsight she is responsible for the technical coordination between University research and the industrial realization of software on the company side.

Liliana holds a PhD in Geophysics from the University of La Plata, Argentina. The research for this thesis was done at the Freie Universität Berlin under the umbrella of a DAAD fellowship. She studied and worked in Buenos Aires, Munich and Berlin.
